Introducing Alexander Mackenzie

Alexander Mackenzie makes his debut at the Chinwe Russell Living Artists Auction. Hailing from the United Kingdom, Mackenzie is participating in this prestigious international auction for the first time, showcasing a series of original themed artworks. Known for his vibrant and ornate depictions of stylized vessels, Mackenzie's work is a feast for the eyes, characterized by hues of yellow, green, and gold.

About the Artist

Alexander Mackenzie draws inspiration from a diverse array of artists. His journey began with the influence of Italian metaphysical still life painter Giorgio Morandi, and evolved to embrace the fantastical elements of Marc Chagall. The creamy impasto techniques of Nicholas de Stael, the whimsical idiosyncrasies of Henri Rousseau, and the bold, vibrant palette of the Scottish Colourists further shaped his unique artistic voice.

Mackenzie’s eclectic use of media includes slushy oils, chalk, and powdery pigments, often incorporating found paper patterns, leaves, and dried flowers. His visceral approach creates almost three-dimensional surfaces, featuring glitter, palette knife sculpting, and iconic chalice-like images. His landscapes are dynamic, shimmering with energy and drawing the viewer’s eye to an unquiet holiness where surfaces wrestle within surfaces.
