Artist spotlight: Delia Zorzoliu — symbolic portraits woven with memory

ree

We’re thrilled to highlight Delia Zorzoliu, a returning artist to the Chinwe Russell Contemporary Living Artists auctions. Our October catalogue is off to a flying start, with 4,000+ visits and 55 registered collectors and dealers already (many in the USA) — and Delia’s works are among the favourites.

Who is Delia Zorzoliu?

Romanian-born and now based in the UK, Delia is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting and mixed media. Her work draws deeply on history, folklore and myth, layering symbols to explore memory and identity.

According to her art profile, Delia is a Certified Professional Visual Artist (i-CAC, France) and is listed in the European Index of Rated Artists — credentials that reflect her growing international presence.

Artfacts also records her as a 1987-born Romanian artist, with verified exhibitions in Europe — further evidence of a steady exhibition trajectory.

What her work looks like

Delia’s pieces often present archetypal female figures set against flat, luminous grounds. She builds surfaces with acrylics, inks, charcoal and collage, creating richly textured, symbolic portraits that feel both ancient and immediate. Motifs such as crowns, serpents, birds and ritual vessels recur, linking the personal with the archeological — she even nods to the Hamangia Neolithic culture in titles and themes.

Works in the current auction

A selection of Delia’s originals appears in our October sale, including:

  • Structural Soul Diagram — a diagrammatic portrait that maps psyche and ritual geometry. (LiveAuctioneers)

  • The Silence of Grace — mixed media on paper, a poised study in stillness and symbol. (Chinwe Russell Auctions)

  • Trace of Hamangia — material echoes of antiquity meet contemporary portraiture. (Chinwe Russell Auctions)

Every work in the catalogue is an original, created by the artist’s hand.

Why collect Delia Zorzoliu now

  • A distinct voice: recognisable symbolic portraiture rooted in European folklore and memory studies.

  • Material intelligence: layered, tactile surfaces that reward close looking.

  • Momentum: steady exhibition and marketplace activity across platforms and auctions.

How to bid

  • The catalogue is live now on LiveAuctioneers, with final live bidding on 12 October.

  • After the live sale, unsold works will be offered in our UK–European auction at auctions.chinwerussell.com.
