Welcome Sarah Brack to our judging panel for Celebrating Our Strength in Our Diversity 2026!

Sarah previously worked alongside Chinwe Russell as Assistant Curator for the D31 Art Gallery, overseeing entries and orchestrating solo exhibitions for local artists. She now focuses her career on her love of antiques and is also a Director at x-church in Gainsborough, providing opportunities for local artists and musicians, primarily focussing on the youth of the area.

Sarah shares:

“Being half Indonesian as a kid in a predominately white area I was very much treated as an 'other'. Watching people infantilise and not take my mother seriously just because of the way she spoke led to a lot of self hatred growing up.

Once I left for University and made friends with people of all different ethnicities, sexualities and gender identities, it allowed me to create a community which allowed for me to be my most authentic version of myself and to speak my truth.

Not everyone is granted this however and may still struggle to communicate their needs and emotions, whether through fear of harm or through difficulty in expressing how you feel in a different language.

That is why art and exhibitions such as these are so important. They create a safe space where voices can be heard, where people can openly express themselves and truly be understood and celebrated for being different.

I look forward to seeing all the artwork included in the exhibition and I can't wait to see what stories you all have to share.

Bhinneka tunggal ika!”
