PAINTING

Paintings are works of art made by smearing pigments, colors, or other materials on a surface; they are primarily two-dimensional.

Paintings come in a variety of shapes and styles, made with a range of tools and supplies. Since ancient times, they have been an essential component of human society and are used for communication, recordkeeping, and aesthetic expression.

Different civilizations and nations throughout history have created eminent paintings that capture their creative traditions, social values, and historical moments. Here are some well-known

works of art from various eras:


  •   Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa: This picture, which was created during the Renaissance, is among the most recognizable and iconic works of art ever created. Leonardo is credited with creating it, which features a woman with a cryptic smile.

  • Vincent van Gogh's masterwork of post-impressionism, The Starry Night, is renowned for its brilliant hues and swirling patterns. It depicts the view from the window of Van Gogh's asylum room and was painted in 1889.

  •   Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper is another outstanding piece. This picture by Leonardo da Vinci shows Jesus eating his last dinner with his disciples. It is situated in Milan, Italy's Santa Maria delle Grazie convent.

  • Pablo Picasso's painting Guernica This large painting by Pablo Picasso was created in 1937 as a reaction to the destruction of the town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. It is a potent pro-peace statement and a representation of the misery brought on by war.

  • The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo is a fresco work that can be found on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. It depicts a scene from the biblical creation myth in which God creates Adam. One of the most well-known compositions from the High Renaissance.

  •   Johanne Vermeer's painting Girl with a Pearl Earring, from the Dutch Golden Age, shows a young woman sporting a pearl earring. It is admired for its delicate handling of light and personal treatment of the subject.

  • The Scream by Edvard Munch: An expressionist painting created in 1893, "The Scream" represents a figure with an anguished expression against a tumultuous sky. It has become an iconic symbol of modern anxiety and despair.
